We had the amazing opportunity of interviewing Cami, a student at MIT about: Extracurriculars
Cami is:
a student majoring in computer science, comparative media studies, and business management
an MIT admissions blogger, admissions panelist, associate advisor,
the MIT 2023 Class Council vice president
and a plethora of other things!
Here are some important words she shares:

Q: What type of organizations or clubs were you involved in in high school that you feel are note-worthy?
A: I created my own club, Equality in STEM, to bring awareness to the injustices minorities face within the STEM fields and we tackled pretty hefty subjects like microaggressions, discrimination in the work place, etc. This then evolved into a mentorship program where I chose a team of 10 seniors to mentor a team of 10 middle schoolers with their science fair projects.
Q: Were you more involved in competitive teams/clubs or were you in more leadership positions?
A: Leadership positions.
Q: Did you think your high school extracurriculars helped you find your interests or did you seek extracurriculars that conformed to your interests?
A: I’d say they helped me find my interests. It was only recently that I realized I should be a business major too, and that realization came from looking back at my high school extracurriculars and realizing I really loved the operations and management aspect of running and leading those clubs.
Q: What accomplishments or impacts did you make in the extracurriculars you were involved in?
A: Honestly, I’m unsure if we ever had any huge impacts. We traveled to the Philippines for one of my extracurriculars to donate books to schools there.
Q: Did your courses and extracurriculars correlate or have they been mutually beneficial?
A: I got a lot of wet lab experience which helped me with my extracurriculars.
Q: Did you ever prioritize your extracurriculars above your schoolwork or grades?
A: Not really..? They had about equal importance I’d say.
What was a typical day like for you in high school managing academics and extracurriculars?
A: I would spend the time at school focusing on school and academics, and that leftover time I would spend on extracurriculars, or during my breaks and lunch time.
